Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to inaugurate the Navi Mumbai Metro line 1 on 30 October. As per reports, the inauguration venue has been finalised and handed over to the security agency. The ceremony is set to take place at Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA), a key hub for the city's transport network.

Originally scheduled for Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit between 15 to 17 October, the inauguration was postponed. The inhabitants of Navi Mumbai may now look forward to the essential transport project, which will be inaugurated on 30 October.

The Metro is being developed by the City and Industrial Corporation Development (CIDCO). CIDCO floated a tender worth Rs 3.20 crores for the ground preparation work for the proposed visit of PM Narendra Modi for the Navi Mumbai Metro at NMIA which will include entry, exit and back stage works.

It has been more than four months since CIDCO acquired the CMRS accreditation for the commercial operation of Navi Mumbai Metro line 1 from Belapur to Pendhar. CIDCO acquired the CMRS accreditation for commercial operation of line 1 from the Commissioner for Metro Rail Safety (CMRS) on 21 June.

Anil Diggikar, vice chairman and managing director of CIDCO had taken a ride on the Metro after receiving the certificate and assured to start its operation soon.

CIDCO required over 12 years to complete an 11-kilometre length of Navi Mumbai line one from Belapur Pendhar. Despite the fact that it has already gotten a commercial safety certificate, thousands of residents in the Taloja area must rely on other modes of transportation that are not only expensive but also time consuming.
