The Noida Metro Rail Corporation (NMRC) is set to expand Metro connectivity to Greater Noida West with the approval of the extension of the Aqua Line corridor.
The revised Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the Aqua Line extension has received the green light, paving the way for enhanced public transportation infrastructure in the region.
The extended Aqua Line corridor will span across 11 stations, starting from the existing Sector 51 station in Noida and culminating at Knowledge Park V in Greater Noida. The revised DPR incorporates slight adjustments in the alignment to optimise the route's efficiency and accessibility.
Lokesh M, Managing Director of NMRC, emphasised the significance of the project in facilitating seamless connectivity between the existing operational Aqua Line and the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation's (DMRC) Blue Line at Sector-61 station.
"The proposed extension aims to provide faster and direct connectivity for commuters travelling between Noida, Greater Noida West, and Greater Noida, towards Noida and Delhi, and vice versa," stated Lokesh M, as reported by MSN News. The 17.43-km route extension is estimated to cost Rs 2991.60 crore.
Currently, the Aqua Line connects Sector 51 of Noida with Depot station in Greater Noida, witnessing a substantial increase in average daily ridership since its inception in 2019. The ridership has more than doubled, soaring from 18,000 to 45,000 by 2023.
"The Noida Sector-61 station will serve as a crucial interchange point between NMRC's Aqua Line and DMRC's Blue Line," added an NMRC official. The proposed corridor will feature stations at strategic locations including Noida Sector-70, Sector-122, Sector-123, Greater Noida Sector-4, Ecotech 4, Greater Noida Sector 2, 3, 10, 12, and Greater Noida Knowledge Park-V.
Commuters from Noida, Greater Noida West, and Greater Noida will benefit from improved connectivity via Vikas Marg and Noida-Greater Noida Link Road, resulting in reduced travel time and alleviating road traffic congestion along these routes.
Furthermore, NMRC is actively pursuing plans to expand the Noida Metro network with two additional corridors. One corridor will extend from NMCR's Depot Station to Bodaki in Greater Noida, while the other will connect the Botanical Garden Metro Station to the Noida Sector-142 station.
The DPR for the Botanical Garden-Sector 142 corridor awaits approval from the Uttar Pradesh government, followed by clearance from the Centre to proceed with implementation, as informed by NMRC officials.
