GMDA Collaborates With DIAL To Address Rising Traffic To IGI Airport

According to a GMDA spokesperson, DIAL has engaged the services of a consulting firm to conduct comprehensive studies aimed at assessing the current traffic situation and predicting future traffic trends between Gurugram and the Delhi airport

The Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) has announced its collaboration with Delhi International Airport (DIAL) to enhance infrastructure development, specifically targeting the increasing vehicular traffic between Gurugram and Delhi's Indira Gandhi International (IGI) airport. The decision was disclosed by A Sreenivas, the CEO of GMDA, during a meeting held on Monday with key stakeholders.

The meeting, chaired by A Sreenivas, brought together senior officials from DIAL (owned by the GMR group), GMDA, National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), and Gurugram traffic police. A statement issued by the GMDA outlined the commitment of these entities to jointly address the challenges posed by the growing traffic between Gurugram and IGI airport.

According to a GMDA spokesperson, DIAL has engaged the services of a consulting firm to conduct comprehensive studies aimed at assessing the current traffic situation and predicting future traffic trends between Gurugram and the Delhi airport.

"The study will delve into travel demand, analyse zone-wise traffic flow and movement patterns, scrutinise the existing transport network, and consider future project corridors and public transport amenities, vehicle parking demand, etc., as the key objectives," the spokesperson explained.

The consulting firm is expected to provide phase-wise recommendations for mitigation measures within the next three months. Short-term, medium-term, and long-term solutions will be outlined to alleviate traffic congestion and enhance connectivity for Gurugram residents.

This collaborative effort signals a proactive approach by GMDA and DIAL to address the infrastructure requirements arising from the surge in vehicular traffic to and from the IGI airport. The results of these studies and subsequent measures are anticipated to bring relief to commuters and enhance the overall transport experience between Gurugram and the IGI airport.
