Policymakers Need To Be Tech-Literate

On every passing day, technology is making progress by leaps and bounds. It is of utmost importance that a track being kept on the progress on a regular basis. This growth in technology changes the way of lives of people. This calls for the importance of education on the technological advancement to the policymakers and all the government bodies.

Cyber Security:

In the world of typical warfare of using cannons and guns, nuclear weapon changed the style of warfare and impacted the results to the greatest of extents. The advancement in technology on the introduction of nuclear weapons drove multiple decisions on safety, regulation of usage etc. This was possible only due to the awareness of the technology by the policymakers.

The current warfare has shifted from physical battlegrounds to digital war grounds. Cybersecurity being the most sought out privacy concern expressed by many individuals and organizations. But unfortunately, the senior most policymakers are turning a blind eye towards this advancement in technology and the impact on what this can potentially end up to.  

Inequality Gap:

The flow of technology can very well be limited or slowed down from one region to another. This, in turn, results in better advancement in cities compared to the rural areas. This could mean that the wage obtained by the person working in a rural area to the wage obtained by the person in a city could vary drastically who will be working on a similar problem. This also affects the advancement of the rural region economically. This inequality gap is also caused by the economic status of the person.

Children, when introduced to technology at an earlier age due to the capital they invest, have more advantage over the technology. This advantage only multiplies over a period thus creating a gap between the information flow. This effect is known as the Mathew effect. These problems are necessary to be addressed by the policymakers to create a fair playground for people from various regions and economic statuses.
