Modi Government creates fresh 'Ministry of Co-Operation'

The new ministry coming into force indicates the Central Government's commitment to Community-based developmental initiatives and fulfill the budget announcement made by Finance Minister earlier.

Just a day ahead of PM Narendra Modi's cabinet reshuffle, the Government at the Centre announced a new Co-Operation Ministry which is named Ministry of Co-Operation. The Ministry is brought into being with a vision of implementing 'Sahakar Se Samriddhi'.

“The ministry will look for smooth functioning  for ease of doing business for co-operatives and enable the development of Multi-State Co-operatives (MSCS),” said the functionary quoted above.

The addition of the new ministry also indicates the Union government’s commitment to community-based developmental partnership and fulfills the budget announcement made by the finance minister, the functionary explained.

Past actions of Union government has ensured renaming of several ministries to expand their coverage of domains, for instance, the ministry of environment was renamed the ministry of environment, forests, and climate change; similarly, the ambit of the ministry of animal husbandry was expanded to include Fisheries, Animal Husbandry, and Dairying and the HRD ministry was renamed as education ministry.
