Investing lakhs of crores won’t bear any fruit if that is not maintained well with the right strategies and the right supporting programmes. Smart City projects are such projects which require proper backend project implementations which will support its very cause of setting it up. The very model of Smart Cities revolves around being sustainable and efficient. 

The administration has to implement ways in which the maintenance of the Smart cities can be taken care of. Smart City models include proper sanitation and cleanliness, better connectivity and technological overhaul in the cities and also implementing technology into the various services that we enjoy as a part of being a citizen.

The first step to maintenance is to build and maintain proper connectivity channels which are roads and rail. This framework should be properly maintained for fast movements of goods which are essential for the development of these cities. Technology should be properly maintained and should be taken good care of so that it doesn't wear out and start to deliver in a faulty manner. The Smart City Schemes should be approached in a better compact manner with higher scalability so that it brings changes to many rather than a few.

Cities should be kept clean by bringing in machines which would reduce the work-load on people doing this job. Rainwater harvesting plan should be started so that rainwater can be put to proper use. Sustainability should be the sole motive of Smart City plans, and to achieve it, we have to use methods which will make it so. Keeping a proper track of all the ongoing projects will help us to know better about their current state. Proper maintenance record should be maintained for the finished projects to know about its required maintenance and to keep it prim and proper.

Other than the backend maintenance of the city planners, it has to be the responsibility of the citizen to maintain the city in good condition.
