PUDUCHERRY, June 22: Puducherry Administration has approved of the transfer of around 303 hectare of land acquired by the Directorate of Industries and Commerce in Sedarapet and Karasur villages here for setting up Special Economic zone to Oulgaret Municipality for implementation of the Smart City Mission.

A notification of the Industries and Commerce Directorate said that the land measuring 303.14 hectare would be used for the green field development project under Smart City mission in the two villages.

Earlier the government had acquired the farm lands for the SEZ project.

But it had now been decided to transfer the site to the municipality for the smart city mission.

The notification said that if the land is not used for the specific purpose for which it has been transferred now within a period of five years the land should be returned to the Directorate of Industries and Commerce.

The transfer has been effected on no profit no loss basis, the notification said.

Puducherry government had with much ado gone ahead with acquisition of the farm lands for SEZ.

But the SEZ plan had not come through and hence the site has been earmarked for the Smart City Mission.
