Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, proposes of Digital Census, Home Minister Shah names it historical for Indian Democracy

In the budget session for the upcoming fiscal year 2021-2022, held today in the parliament, Finance Minister of India, Nirmala Sitharaman, today hinted at commencing Digital Census in the upcoming poll-bound states. The massive exercise involved in the entire process will be rolled out in 16 languages and a total budget of INR 12000 crores.


On this context Union Home Minister, Amit Shah, went on to comment further: “The census activity on the part of government will henceforth be conducted through mobile phone application instead of traditional pen and paper concept, in order to give an additional push forward to Digital India concept.


The minister made these announcements while laying the foundation stone for the new building of Registrar General of India and Census Commission today.


In this context, Shah further said that the census data will be collected through a mobile phone applications henceforth. It is for the first time that the census exercises will be performed digitally and will be boosting digital data, which will be a big revolution in the country's census exercise.


 Referring to the 2021 census, Shah further said, “The digital data will enable in future planning of the country, especially for development initiatives and welfare schemes, and it will be a 'Jan Bhagidari' (people's participation) exercise.”
