DJB Adds 250 Tankers with GPS to Check Water Theft

NEW DELHI, May 13: Delhi Jal Board today
added as many as 250 tankers in its fleet to ease the city's water woes during
the summer season.
The tankers are fitted with GPS to check water theft and will enable consumers
to track their movement.
Until now, the DJB was operating 407 stainless steel tankers and 385 mild steel
tankers to supply water in the deficit areas of Delhi.
Water Minister Kapil Mishra flagged off the new fleet of stainless steel
tankers from the Delhi Secretariat here in presence of DJB CEO Keshav Chandra.
Induction of the new tankers, of which 192 are of 4kl capacity and the rest of
9kl capacity, became necessary as the tankers purchased in 1998 have
"outlived their utility or useful life", DJB said in a statement.
"These tankers are BS-IV Vehicles as per environmental norms, will be
integrated with the existing water tanker distribution management system, each
tanker will be fitted with GPS to track its movement on the real-time basis.
"The movement of these water tankers can be seen on the smart mobile by
the users. Anybody in public domain can track the vehicles and its
timings," it said
