NEW DELHI, October 16: To promote the goals of the Prime Minister's ambitious Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, various agencies have proposed to add over 400 new toilets in the areas under the three municipal corporations in the national capital. North Delhi Municipal Corporation (NDMC) and South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC) will construct 172 and 48 community toilet complexes (CTCs), respectively, in the coming days, said municipal officials. The two civic bodies will also construct 50 and 20 public toilets, respectively, in the areas under them, a senior municipal corporation officer said. The National Buildings Construction Corporation (NBCC) has proposed to construct 10 'Namma' toilets each in the NDMC, SDMC and East Delhi Municipal Corporation (EDMC) areas. These toilets are modular toilets that are designed with an aim of eradicating the practice of open defecation. Meanwhile, 10 toilets each are being constructed in the three municipal corporation areas by the Delhi Urban Art Commission (DUAC), said the officer. Also, construction of toilets at 50 locations in each municipal corporation area has been proposed under PPP mode, he said. NDMC has also constructed 35 new toilets for women while 16 more such facilities are coming up. The three municipal corporations presently operate and maintain 788 CTCs and 1,931 urinal blocks in different parts of the city barring the New Delhi Municipal Council and Cantonment Board areas.
