13 IAS officers appointed as Secretaries across various Ministries; Air India MD to be the new Secretary to the Ministry of Civil Aviation

9 officers have also been upgraded to the rank of Special Secretaries. They will be given the pay equivalent to the Secretary to the Government of India.

In a major rejig, the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet announced an order to reshuffle 22 IAS officers across various ministries including Telecom and Aviation.

Out of 22 officers, 13 have been given new postings as secretaries and 9 have been upgraded to the level of Special Secretary in the rank. The Special Secretaries will get the pay equivalent to the pay of Secretary to the government.

Out of the 13 officers who have been given the new postings, Rajiv Bansal, MD, Air India Ltd., and a Nagaland cadre IAS officer has been appointed as the Secretary to the Ministry of Civil Aviation. He will succeed Pradeep Kharola on 30th September 2021.

Further, Anuradha Prasad, Special Secretary of the Ministry of Labour and Employment, will take the responsibility as Secretary, Inter-State Council Secretariat under the Ministry of Home Affairs on 30th September 2021.

K Rajaraman, posted as additional secretary in the department of economic affairs will now be Secretary to the Department of Telecommunications. He will succeed the former Chief Secretary of Delhi, Anshu Prakash after the latter retires on 30th September.

The order further stated that Vice President of DDA Anurag Jain will now be given the role of Secretary, Department of Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade under the Ministry of Commerce and Industry. Also, Secretary of the Ministry of Steel Pradip Kumar Tripathi has been given the role of Secretary, Department of Personnel and Training under the Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions.   

Further, senior IAS officer and Additional Secretary in the Department of Home Govind Mohan will now be Secretary, Ministry of Culture. Apart from that, K Sanjay Murthy, CEO and MD of National Industrial Corridor Development Corporation Limited has been appointed as the new Secretary to the Department of Higher Education under the Ministry of Education.

Also, Additional Secretary and Development Commissioner in the Ministry of MSMEs Devendra Kumar Singh will now be the Secretary to the Ministry of Cooperation. And Sunil Barthwal, Central Provident Fund Commissioner, EPFO will be the new Secretary to the Ministry of Labour and Employment.

Bihar cadre IAS officer Sujata Chaturvedi has been appointed as the Secretary, Department of Sports in the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports. She will succeed 1986 Bihar cadre IAS officer, Ravi Mittal. Among others, Administrator of the Universal Service Obligation Fund Ansuli Arya has been given the role of Secretary, Department of Official Language under the Ministry of Home Affairs.

Further, Additional Secretary and Financial Adviser, Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, Rajesh Aggarwal, is given the role of Secretary, Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship. Also, Additional Secretary, DoPT, Lok Ranjan has been appointed as the Secretary, Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region.

Among the officers who have been upgraded to the level of Special Secretary are names like Kartikithala Srinivas, Director, Lal Bhadur Shastri National Academy of Administration; Chandan Sinha, DG, National Archives of India and Arun Kumar, DG, Directorate General of Civil Aviation, Ministry of Civil Aviation. They will continue to hold the same posts but their ranks will be upgraded to Special Secretary.
