‘We Are World Leader In Intelligent Building’

Johnson Controls is a global diversified technology leader with focus in intelligent buildings, efficient energy solutions, integrated infrastructure and next generation transportation systems that work seamlessly together to deliver on the promise of smart cities and communities. Shrikant Bapat, General Manager, Building Technologies and Solutions, Johnson Controls India shares his thoughts with Manish Arora of BW Smartcities about his India focus.

How do you see Indian market and the Smart Cities Mission as an opportunity for Johnson Controls to cater?

According to KPMG, 40 per cent of India’s population will live in cities by 2030. The Government of India launched the 100 Smart Cities initiative that has included smart buildings which are empowered with IoT. The strategic components under the Smart Cities Mission include city improvement, city renewal and city extension plus a pan-city initiative in which smart solutions are applied covering larger parts of the city. And, we deliver our products and services throughout a building’s lifecycle.

We partner closely with architects and engineers as they plan and design new construction; we work side-by-side with contractors to help build a building’s infrastructure; we support facility and security directors in optimally operating and maintaining the equipment and controls systems in their facilities; and we advise building owners on ways to improve the performance of their buildings with retrofit and replacement strategies.

Our knowledge and experience of optimizing a facility throughout its unique and distinct lifecycle helps our customers consistently solve their building challenges with a trusted partner.

Johnson Controls is in a favorable position as a leading provider of integrated products and solutions, to deliver on the promise of smart cities and communities in India. In India we have 9 branches, 5 distributors and 10 dealerships.

How you position Johnson Controls as a one-stop provider of everything a smart building needs ?

Johnson Controls offers total building technologies and solutions—from HVAC equipment, controls and refrigeration to security, fire and hazard protection, building automation and integrated solutions, retail solutions, and life, safety and personal protection.

Our successful merger with Tyco as well as our joint venture with Hitachi Appliances, Inc, has greatly enhanced our existing capabilities and expanded our portfolio of products and solutions. With our combined insights and world-class technologies we are well-positioned to better serve the needs of our customers throughout the entire lifecycle of their buildings.

As a world leader in advanced HVAC technology, we take global consumption seriously. As building equipment and systems become increasingly integrated and intelligent, they offer building owners and facility managers new and more effective tools to reduce repair costs, minimize downtime and keep their buildings operating at peak performance.

The new generation of smart connected buildings links equipment, systems and data sources inside and outside the building with powerful control systems and sophisticated software applications, creating a network with the service technician and facility team at its center. These connected technologies are redefining the way equipment and buildings are being serviced today. Smart connected services monitor systems continuously in real-time to diagnose symptoms and address them before a problem or breakdown occurs. This means facility managers, don’t have to spend their time responding to alarms and maintenance crises reactively after they happen.

For instance, we implement the latest technologies, such as data streamed from equipment to the cloud, advanced analytics, and remote monitoring are just a few of the technology trends that are changing how chillers are being serviced and maintained. With new insights into efficiency and access to the expertise of skilled technicians, today’s Smart connected chillers offer benefits including fewer disruptions, reduced downtime, and longer equipment life.

Essentially, by incorporating IoT we are making it easier than ever to stay on top of chiller maintenance – with data available anywhere, remote monitoring and diagnostics allow service technicians to proactively tackle potential issues, making preventative care and maintenance scheduling easier than ever.
